Visiting Engines Day 2025

Visiting Engines Day 2025

Barnards Miniature Railway, West Horndon, Essex,

A usual event that we host every year. This one-day gala allows visiting steam and diesel locomotives from all over the country to visit our railway and run our trains, alongside our home fleet. With other attractions to add, this is set to be a fantastic event.

A yearly event where we invite visiting locomotives from all across the UK to Barnards, to help run the passenger service and operate a variety of special trains.

Look out for our heritage freight train featuring wagons dating back to 1972, Glen Dowd branch line specials, and unique trains operated by our fleet of Mardyke locomotives—a company based in nearby Bulphan with an incredible history in miniature railways.

We are currently busy organising the locomotives for this event and will announce the full line-up as the event approaches. In addition, several miniature traction engines and steam lorries will be navigating the site, offering something extra to enjoy while meandering around.

The Barnards Miniature Railway will be running train services throughout the weekend. Gates open at 11:00, and the last train departs at 16:00. Trains will run at regular intervals during the day.

Please note that the railway is usually very busy when we open at 11:00. To avoid longer waiting times, we recommend arriving after opening.

Return tickets for one full ride of the railway are £7, while Rover tickets, which allow unlimited rides all day, are £10. The same rate applies for both adults and children, and under 3s travel free. No booking is required—just turn up on the day. Please note, only contactless payment is accepted.

The railway is located at Barnards Miniature Railway, Barnards Farm, Brentwood, CM13 3FY, and there is free on-site parking available. Feel free to bring a picnic and use the tables and seating provided. Light refreshments will be available at Burtonshaw Terminus station.

Please note that dogs are not permitted, unless they are guide dogs. Additionally, the gardens will be closed to the public on this day, so there is no garden entry fee—just the fee for the railway.

The ticket cost represents a donation towards the development and operating costs of the Christabella Charitable Trust, a registered charity. Subject to demand and availability.
