VISITING LOCOMOTIVES🚂

1) Lambton No.60

Built in 1948 by the Hunslet Engine Company, to the Ministry of Defence ‘Austerity’ design. It became the first locomotive delivered to the National Coal Board number 2 (Mid-East Durham) Area. It carries the distinctive Lambton cab – to fit through the narrow bore tunnel down to the Lambton Drops (staiths). She operated from Philadelphia shed at the centre of the Lambton system until she moved to Hetton shed in 1957.

2) Lambton No.29

Lambton No.29 is one of two survivors of the distinctive 0-6-2 side tank engines with the standard rounded cabs known as ‘Lambton tanks.’ It was built by Kitson of Leeds in 1904 for Lambton collieries which were absorbed by the Lambton, Hetton & Joicey Colliery group on its creation in 1914. It spent its entire working life at Lambton sheds at Philadelphia. She was one of the final locomotives withdrawn at the end of steam on the system in February 1969, just a year after its last overhaul!
